Just the beginning of an idea

Dear friends,

So, time to cross the threshold. I have traveled my whole life, by the good graces of great parents, and all of a sudden I am compelled to travel again, head into the wind, on an adventure across the country something like 30-40 days. No real map, no real plan, no real return date.

I was traveling to visit Robert in Vail Colorado. Is was a spectacular morning with the Rockies far in the distance.

On Sunday Morning, November 18th, 2007 (approximately 5:50am mst) I was driving west in the eastern most part of Colorado. Just before sunrise I was blinded, enlightened, intimidated and shocked by the brightest comet I have ever seen cross any sky. It traveled south to north and was visible to me for no less than 5 seconds. Aided by the sun creeping from behind and the western sky, and I suspect glowing off the crowns of the rockies, this comet raged in a radiance of color and intensity. The head was bluish-orange and grand, and the tail was that color I call white hot blue. It crossed my field of sight for long enough to convince me that I was meant to see it. I named it, claimed it , and have been determined to follow it every day, every hour since then.

My plan is to have no agenda but to head, roughly, north and west in early October, then south with vague intent and then....well, who knows. I am leaving Pittsburgh on Monday, October 6, 2008

I am not going to fill boxes will email.

I have been looking for comets my whole life. I have a window right now to follow one west, north, south and east.

Oh, I forgot the point of this posting. I am going to send the blog site to essentially everyone I know so that you can share with me the most spectacular site you have visited....Atlantic to Pacific....Canada to Mexico. If you tell me, I will go there.

If this pilgrimage of sorts has inerest for you, check in on this sight when you want to. I know the comet sighting called me to make this trip. I am going to try to share what I find out there.

As of this posting, my son Robert is going to make some part, all, none of the trip with me.
He turned 21 years old this year, I will turn 50 years old this year, somewhere out there...I hope.

Although not precisely around the corner, remember there's a place down here in Chile where you can always drop by.

The most breath taking place I have ever visited was Pebble Beach. I went there to play golf, but founnd mysel staring out into the Pacific Ocean. I made Shannon come back(twice) with me after to show her. I also recommend getting lunch in carmel or dinner in Cannery Row. They are all very close. Good luck I look forward to your updates.

PS: Yes, they are all Mexicans;)

Wonderful news! I wish you nothing but the best on your journey. "Take in" the ocean air as often as you can for me.

Sean, you are awesome! What you are about to embark on is a dream of mine, too. Well if you make it to/through Oregon, you have to check out the McKenzie River (around Springfield, OR). Look up Dan Bensten for one of the best guided trout fishing tours in the west.

I heard Squish was down on cannery row looking for sailors who wanted to earn $6 "the hard way..."

I decided to clog up your email with suggestions.

So good to hear from you. If you are able, Lake Tahoe is the most amazing place I've been so far in the west. You must jump in, brrr! Enjoy it all, friend.

Sean,

Dead Horse Point and Arches National Park in Moab, Utah are absolutely stunning. I recommend the horse back ride through the Arches.

And don't forget about Erie.
